University of Madras was recognized in the year 1839. Madras University is oldest university of south India. It is considered as ‘Mother of all Old Universities in Southern India’. The University has the highest rating for its quality education, by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). UGC has accepted this University as first centre of potentials for excellence in India.
The Institute of Distance Education was recognized in the year 1981 at the Madras University. The institute offers education opportunities at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level via distance education mode. The Academic Year for distance education works from July/August to the April/May of next year. The institute also offers calendar year courses involving January to December of each year.
Admissions are given at Institute of Distance Education situated at Chepauk Campus for University of Madras or in numerous Spot Admission Centres; spread all over Country
