Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was recognized on 1 July 1989 via Act XX in 1989 of Maharashtra State Legislature, named after Yashwantrao Chavan, the great political leader as well as builder to modern Maharashtra. Because of the statutory powers presented by the Maharashtra state act XX (1989) and legislature and recognition by UGC (University Grants Commission), the university is totally empowered to give different academic certifications like diplomas, certificates, graduate, post-graduate, and doctoral degrees. 

The university takes all the precautions, with all the program stages from the ‘Curriculum Design’ to the ‘Examination’, to make sure that the quality and standards of education as well as examinations are maintained. The curriculum for these programs is specially designed for uniformity, with similar academic programs, provided by the other constitutional universities of different states. The University also offers many different certificates or diploma, which can or cannot be correspondent to any such certificates. The certificates will inspire students for the self-study, like the learning efforts may be accepted by university after the short duration. The certificates will be given only when, the student requests, along with the attested photocopies of the Mark-Sheets, which confirms the successful conclusion of necessary courses in the end examination. No convocation will be required to issue for these certificates.
